DISCOS AND OTHER MDAs( NNPC,POLICE, POVERTY ALLEVIATION MIN,etc,) ARE PROBLEMS TO NIGERIA:
•The present DISCOS composition and Management is a fraud!
In fact those who claimed to have invested there are past govt Officials and their failures and their cronies- whose motives is just to flicee --------Nigerians anyhow - without rendering quality Services!
• why are they not Metering every institution, every home, etc?
• Why are major Companies, govt Offices, MDAs are not being Metred?
•Those so called ' Big Men ' Properties are ensures to By- pass their Cables through 'arrangement' by Top Management of DISCOS because of Corruption and vested Interests - at detriment of the Masses! So ,they came with the idea that - just changed them Band, without corresponding delivery Services,as they take Nigerians for granted!
Recently one DISCOS in Lagos here was embroiled in Staff - Audit Management Manipulation( fraud),yet the Minister of Power looked the other ways,as if Govt don't have any Stake in DISCOS success!
A very big shameful Institution!
The Only solution to Nigeria Constant Lights is for Govt to dismantle these DISCOS or Pay them Off,as govt did to British Oil Company then, during the Army regime!
•We have been having problems every day with NEPA turned PHCN,that methamophosed into DISCOS and NO IMPROVEMENT till date,as NIGERIANS are withnessing more Darkness than ever before because of Corruption!
Meanwhile you see all these so called Management traveling to other Countries with Stable lights at our Airports!
What a shameless People!
Can they do this in China or Russia or even in Europe without going to jail or sent to Siberia jungle?
-Thieves in Corridors of Power- why must the Police collect money from Nigerians on the Roads?
Why should NNPC had audacity to change and varied Prices at will,at detriment of the Masses - when we own the Crude Oil?
- Why should the Poverty Alleviation Ministry Managers/ Ministers - past and present be heavily involved involved in Humongous Multi NBILLIONS Corruption, yet no one is held Accountable - even the Govt-pretend as if nothing happens?
•Until we ALL DECIDE to be Patrotic, shun Corruption, and Disciplined Ourse-nothing will work in Nigeria!

Electricity is not rocket science, especially if you have available sources such as Gas, Wind, Solar and Hydro.

GRID electricity has five pillars: governance, source(Hydro, Solar, Wind, Thermal) generation, transmission, distribution and consumption. Transmission seems to be the major problem due to the lack of infrastructure and poor management by TCN. Replace TCN with regional distribution. The North should depend on their local energy sources such as Wind, Hydro and Solar.

Let states and regions take ownership of their electricity requirements. The existing electricity plants should be allocated to the regions where they are allocated; the SE already has 2000 MW. The federal government should focus on building more Hydro Dams in Northern Nigeria instead of wasting valuable resources on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road.

There are reasons why the Southern states overcame their education problems in the 1960s by using universal primary education and local solutions for local issues.

Does Nigeria need the TCN? Does it make sense to generate electricity in Lagos (Egbin) and transmit it to the North or vice versa from Kanji Dam to Lagos? Egbin should serve the SW and Kainji Dam in the Middle Belt, then the transmission cost would be reduced, and the focus would be on electricity generation and distribution.

BTW NNPCL should be scraped immediatelly

Niger for example now has like 4 dams... Kainji, jebba, shiroro and zungeru, d middle belt alone can't consume d energy generated from all dis stations... What we need is more ways to generate electricity

From the comments I read, I come to understand that Nigerians are educated but failed to know the basic things that happened around their environment. Could it be that it is politics or ethnicity that stalled us from seen things from right perspective? Or it is ignorance that makes some of us to make stupid comments? I cry for my country.

The total electricity capacity in Niger state is only 2700MW. The Middle Belt will need more to develop a mining, agro-processing and manufacturing industry. If SA, with a population of 60 million, is struggling to manage 55,000 MW. Nigeria can barely transmit 5000MW.

Nigeria should focus on the electricity that they will need for the industrialisation of the future.

Kainji Power Station Kainji, Niger State Reservoir 800MW
Jebba Power Station Jebba, Niger State Reservoir 540MW
Shiroro Power Station Shiroro, Niger State Reservoir 600MW
Zungeru Power Station, Niger State Reservoir 700MW

is that not what I'm saying, I said we should focus more on other ways of generating electricity, if u say other regions should generate their own electricity, then d question would be, generate their electricity from what? South Africa uses coal fired plant to get bulk of its electricity ... If Nigeria can look into dis it would be better, I knw there is coal in enugu and kogi.... Instead of relying on hydro and gas.... South Africa also uses nuclear energy...

No, you're confusing "coupled in Nigeria" with "Made in Nigeria". Here in Nigeria, we have all the raw materials for making all kinds of electronics but you don't even have access to those raw materials. Most manufacturing firms in Nigeria import and couple whereas we have materials that we can build from scratch to finish without a single import. Companies like Tesla can handle it if given access to our raw materials to manufacture in bulk and they won't import a pin from abroad.

So, that's what i'm talking about. Got it?

How did you get prepaid for that price? The official price is far greater than what you mentioned unless you bought stolen meters.

You are ver right but all of these at the federal level might take time cos it has to start at the policy level which I think it’s what they are doing. The most important thing is the will to do it as there are many ways to do things what I am skeptical of is if these politicians have the will to do it. Time will tell

National grid should be dissolved. Let states and local government takes charges of their power generation and supply. But corruption and personal interest will not make that to work.

Only the youth can fix this country. All the old men don’t know anything concerning modern society
Did you just get to Nigeria? The power sector was decentralize in 2022.

Power was moved from the exclusive list to the concurrent list. States Government can now generate, transmit and distribute power supply since 2022.

Forget about coal; Western financial institutions will not provide loans for a new coal power station due to the ESG and climate change. However, suppose the SE state government and private SE institutions can garner the will to approach Asian financial institutions to support the financing of coal power electricity. It will make a significant difference.

It was reported in 2018 that PowerChina was in discussions with the Kogi State government over financing a 2,400 MW coal-fired power plant in the state, but nothing appeared to have come of that.
In a pledge aimed at helping tackle climate change, China said on Tuesday it would not build new coal-fired power projects abroad. read more
