Cococandy is your hair relaxed? I did the big chop, now grooming it again and it is so strong. Strangely hairdressers claim my hair is soft. Please don’t tell me leave-in conditioner and all that o. I have various products currently. I don’t know my hair type, but it is deeply curled. Currently stretches to about 4 inches. Can I do a blowout? I know heat is not good, but mehn, I currently dread making my hair. Considered locking it, but I shelved that. 1 Like |

pocohantas: Hi poco. I’m natural. I do blow outs and flat iron all the time and it reverts back to its natural state when I wash it. I feel you as far the tough texture goes. Don’t be afraid to apply heat. Use a heat protecting primer when the hair is wet and blow out in sections. When it is dry, flat iron if you want to or braid/style accordingly to your heart’s desire. All those leave in conditioner bla bla bla ,most of them don’t work on our type of hair texture (4c). When I wear it naturally, it’s in Afro shape and doesn’t even last for the whole day. Sometimes I feel it’s not worth the effort and time it consumes. As long as you’re not applying heat more than once every other week, you’ll be fine. If you must style it without applying heat, do the styling when it it’s wet or damp. That’s only language type 4 hair understands. 4 Likes |

cococandy: Thank you!! I was already sick and tired of the leave in conditioner talk. I began to think I am not applying right or using a cheap product. So, I bought two more. Glad to know I was right all along - it is not working mehn. I’ll try this out. Thanks a lot. 1 Like |

pocohantas: Yea this works perfectly for me. Fingers crossed it will work for you too. I did my final big chop during that first Covid outbreak after I got tired of chop, grow, relax, get tired/frustrated, chop again and repeat. Now I mostly leave it alone. When in it’s natural state it looks like it’s short but when I blow out, I can see how much it’s growing. Pics for encouragement 1 Like |

cococandy: Omalicha 1 of the whole Nairaland . It looks very good, both as an afro and when it is stretched out. What motivated your decision to go natural? The way it looks when you leave it alone is just how I love my hair to look in my head. Though I haven’t achieved anything close to that length. I hope I don’t get tired because when I did the big chop earlier this year, I first went for one of those Rihanna kinda short hair. So I had to transition and kept trimming the edges until I got this. Wish me well o. 2 Likes |

cococandy: Beautiful. So how did you make it stop breaking? And for how long have you left it now, like, since you last cut it off? |

pocohantas: We're in our queendom, and you're still firing bazooka to their base. Fear God o. Reminds me of this girl... she was a regular on NL. I think she stays in Germany, and she has a VERY long hair. Even dedicated a whole thread to it, and yes, she's a feminist too. I can't remember her moniker. Modified: It's fiery.y. I just confirmed it. 4 Likes |

Thank you gorgeous. Look if it helps, you’re not alone. Let’s just say last week I considered going bald again. So that I could properly dye it honey blonde . (Long story but I’ve been trying to color it. it’s hard to get it to be the color I want except I use bleach; which I don’t really want to). For now it’s been two years since the first Covid. That’s how long I’ve stopped messing with it. So I wanna say in a year or two you’ll see a big change if you’re patient . I wish you good luck Oh and what made me go natural is that when I relax my hair is really weak and breaks off too easily pocohantas: 4 Likes |

pocohantas: Asin. Very befitting. What motivated your decision to go natural? That natural afro is goals too. But how exactly to make it long or what to do is what I'm having trouble figuring out now. 1 Like |

Magnoliaa: Thank you. It’s been two years. I usually wear protective styles a lot. Like braids and wigs. I NEVER comb or style when it’s dry in the natural state. I detangle under running water with a big comb and put it into large twists in the shower so that it won’t get tangled again. Then I blow dry each twist section to stretch it out. Only then can I style it dry. To me all those products are the same. I won’t recommend any specific one. They don’t really work for our hair type. I just apply the ones that smell good 3 Likes 1 Share |

cococandy: Okay... Noted. Patience seems to be the no. 1 ingredient lol, and it doesn't seem like you do so much... these are pretty easy to follow up. I used to read views and all that about how natural hair is harder to maintain or something. 2 Likes |
Re: The Pinkpill Roundtable Discussion by cococandy(f): 8:35pm On Aug 28, 2022 |
Magnoliaa: It can be hard if you’re trying to do natural styles all the time. Like twist out, finger curls, wash and go etc. it takes all day to style and only last 2- 3 days. That’s why people give up easily. Who has time to style hair 2x a week? |
Re: The Pinkpill Roundtable Discussion by Magnoliaa(f): 8:37pm On Aug 28, 2022 |
cococandy: The hair plague. You wouldn't even know which to settle for, or when you settle for one, you suddenly feel like sporting another look again. I cut off mine in an emotional, spur of the moment thing about two years ago . It pretty long then too. I hope I don't get the urge to get all of it off again. |
