Barcelona To Part Ways With Xavi Hernández As First Team Coach by yusufdayo1: 5:06pm On May 24
The worst-kept secret in Barcelona land is now official: Xavi Hernández will not continue as first team head coach in the 2024-25 season and will be coaching his final game on Sunday in the La Liga finale against Sevilla, the club announced on Friday.

Here is the full statement from the club on the decision to sack their legendary midfielder:
“On Friday, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has informed Xavi Hernández that he will not be continuing as first team coach in the 2024-25 season.
The meeting happened at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper and was also attended by sporting vice-president Rafa Yuste, director of sport Anderson Luís de Souza, Deco, Xavi, Òscar Hernández and Sergio Alegre.
FC Barcelona wishes to thank Xavi for his work as coach, as well as for his inimitable career as a player and as team captain, and wishes him every future success in the world.
Xavi Hernández will be coaching the team for the last time in Sunday’s game away to Sevilla.
During the course of the next few days, FC Barcelona will be making an announcement regarding the new first team structure.”

Xavi’s replacement is widely expected to be former Bayern Munich and Germany manager Hansi Flick, who has according to several reports reached agreement on a one-year contract with an option for a second season and will be officially announced as first team manager early next week.
Xavi departs after 142 official games and two titles during his two-and-a-half-year stint as first team coach, playing a crucial role in the club’s rebuild after taking over from Ronald Koeman and winning La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup in his first full season as manager.
Xavi failed to replicate the same success this season and announced in late January that he would be leaving the club at the end of the campaign, only to reverse his decision during a stretch of great results in March and April. But a painful Champions League elimination at home to Paris Saint-Germain and a brutal defeat in El Clásico that handed the La Liga title to Real Madrid restarted the rumors of Xavi’s job possibly being in jeopardy.
Things then took a turn for the worse when Xavi spoke in a press conference last week and according to several reports angered president Joan Laporta with his comments about Barça’s lack of investment in the squad due to their financial issues, and the club chief was determined to part ways with the coach and quickly moved on to making his decision official.
Xavi’s departure has certainly not been handled nearly as well as it should have, but we finally have clarity in the situation and can be grateful to a legend who accepted a really difficult job in the most turbulent period in the club’s history and gave everything he had until the end.
Now Barça officially move on without Xavi next season, and sporting director Deco is expected to make several changes to the squad in the summer in addition to the likely hiring of Hansi Flick.
