Tinubu can’t review every list and that is exactly why we have a monster of education and this post originated from his office.

I’m glad Tinubu listens and call for a review to the list but it’s just sad that the minister had to make those kind of rookie mistake in the constitution of the list.

But we can’t continue like this where the president must review everything. Ministers should have some form of independence of thought and they should be allowed to function based on how they deem fit to direct their ministry. If they eventually do a big blunder, the president can step in and sack them.

But this one where a minister do something, people complain, president step in, change it again, and etc will reward bad behavior as some Nigerians will never agree to everything a minister does whether good or bad.
The fault lies in failure to give universities autonomy in running their affairs. In serious countries, the board of institutions are chosen by the institutions themselves and not by one govt official.

I really want to reply your post so that I straighten out the issues. The problem of a Nation is not about sincerity of purpose, there's no Nigerian president past and present that doesn't have the sincerity to make things work even Buhari in earnest wants to make Nigeria work but the problem is having the capacity, ability and intrinsic knowledge of things that can turn it around. Buhari failed because he doesn't have the capacity not really because he wanted bad thing for Nigeria

Again issues of governance is not about beautiful and adequate policies but it's about implementation. You can make the most human sustainable policies but once it is implemented badly it destroys the beauty. That's the issue with PBAT. When you make a policy that will affect 200 million people and 50 million die off before reaping the benefits frankly no matter the gains it's ineffective and counter productive. The announcement on 29th May was uncalled for and some other of his policies have shown he is way off the line to make the necessary changes.

I really hope he turn things around because it will be for the benefit of the masses but as it is now to be sincere he is not scoring average, he needs to do more.
So on point.
That's what I was telling one zombie who claims to have high iq yesterday. If you like, change to regional govt, as long as the operators are not doing things with the best interest of the country at heart, the result will always be the same. Its not the system but the operators. China has the worst system you can think of. Highly central and dictatorial with minimum input from its citizens. But they are able to build a strong country due to the commitment of their leaders to make things work.
Our leaders are not emotionally and mentally invested in project Nigeria. They have houses, businesses, lives and livelihood outside the country where they run to when the "stress" of the country is too much. Nigeria is more an afterthought or pastime for them. That's why they can hardly make the necessary personal sacrifices to make the country progress.

God bless for the bolded, the problem is the commitment and tenacity to make things work. Many of the leaders don't believe in the Nigeria project and that's simply because they believe Nigeria political scene is a gameplay by the elites so none of them care about the masses. The day they know that their stay in office depends on what the masses want only then will they put extra effort to make the country better.

Credit must be given to TVC News Journalists' Hangout.

On Monday or Tuesday, Babajide Kolade-Otitoju blamed the President for not paying attention to the fact that 32 members of the reconstituted governing councils of universities came from Adamawa State alone, where the Minister of Education hails from. He further said other people submitted names that were disregarded.

Otitoju said federal character must be reflected so as not to give undue advantage to any state. Someone called into the programme to blame Gbajabiamila and NSA Ribadu, but the anchor cut him off.

If there is one thing about the Tinubu administration, it is that he listens and tries to be fair.

Babajide Kolade-Otitoju, if you ever read this, we are grateful that you used your programme to tell the president how it is. Continue that way.

Even in Adamawa state majority of those selected are from northern zone were the minisiter hails from, central and southern Adamawa are neglected

In USA, state governor also participate in the selection of university boards for public institutions.

In Nigeria case, FG have tried to grant them autonomy but they ASUU always refuse. ASUU only want partial autonomy but never full autonomy.

They want FG to continue to massively fund the universities and still not be able to have any influence on them. That is impossible by Nigeria standard.

If Tinubu go ahead to grant full autonomy tomorrow, they will go on strike and opposition will pounce on that for political gain.

And it's unfortunate that some masses have now joined them in this stupid political games. You can see a lot of APC supporters have already earmarked who and where the presidency will come from till 2039 out of a desperation to ensure someone they love to hate does not become president. For them, it doesn't matter how bad Tinubu's performance is, he must complete the 8 years because it's the turn of the south after which it will go north and whoever emerges will also spend 8 years because it's the turn of the North and then south again. You think our political elites are more aware of this mundane thinking by a section of the masses who are supposed to be the most enlightened? If those who are educated already have that mindset, what do you think will be the lot of the poor and downtrodden who are easily misguided with lies, sentiments and stomach infrastructure?
Those doing the biggest harm to project Nigeria are those who support the political elites regardless of their failings

1. It is not the business of ASUU if fg determined that the best way to run universities is to grant them autonomy.

2. What obtains in US is totally different from Nigeria. The governor appoints a representative in the board of state owned public institutions not like Nigeria where the board is constituted and even funded by govt.

3. At least read the link before you dump it with screaming headline. The ASUU chairman was talking about autonomy in terms of funding not administration. No responsible govt will claim to take its hands off funding of public institutions. That's what the man is talking about not autonomy in terms of administration. Read below

In Nigeria, it is the business of ASUU. Infact it is the business of most of this organizations and unions. If Tinubu come tomorrow and tell ASUU that he is granting them full autonomy where they use the money they generate internally to run their affairs and government step in only when due, ASUU will go on strike the next day.

2. What obtains in US is totally different from Nigeria. The governor appoints a representative in the board of state owned public institutions not like Nigeria where the board is constituted and even funded by govt.
What is the difference between half a dozen and six? Does the board of state owned public institutions not have a say in the board of each university?

In Georgia where I am for example, the governor appoint board for the university system of Georgia, he draw them from each congressional district, then get confirmed by the GA senate. They inturn set educational policies, approve budget, and oversee general admin for those Unis.

Tell me exactly how that is different from the Nigeria setting when you factor in the overall goal?

I clearly explained what you said in my post you quoted, check it again. Your blood too dey hot.

How can you have autonomy in administration when you inturn seek government intervention in paying your staff salaries? Does that even make any sense to you?

Government Intervention is normal in all agencies, it’s not only about ASUU. Even for state schools, government should intervene one time or another. They could intervene in research, appropriation of some certain percentage, some projects donated to schools, and etc.

But ASUU still want FG to carry the burden of staff payment while they sit down somewhere forming autonomy. ASUU argument is that 95% of what they collected as fees will be used to fund salaries of employees and that they don’t want to charge tuition since tuition is currently free in institutions. So if you’re going to grant full autonomy to universities, then it will go hand in hand with tuition charging which in itself is counterproductive.

Always making wrong appointments. Virtually all major appointments by Tinubu came with a review. This was how he started and it might follow him althrough. Shows there is something fundamentally wrong with his team. I suspect Gbaja and Akume to be the loose ends in this appointment troubles of Tinubu. So bad
