ABGREMO-Nigeria is a youth based NGO founded in 1997 by Comrade Edem Edem with a mission of working for the promotion of Environmental and Human rights protection in and around the coastal communities of Niger-Delta region-Nigeria aimed at poverty eradication, through information sharing, education and action programme.

Job Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator and Finance Officer, the Admin/Finance Assistant will perform the following duties:
Planning and coordinating the activities of the finance unit by ensuring that the unit has adequate resources to effectively undertake its activities.
Providing leadership and supervision to all staff in the unit in regards to carrying out their daily tasks in an effective and efficient manner as per ABGREMO’s regulations or any institutional donor/partner requirements.
Coordinate the preparation of budget for all projects/programmes as per ABGREMO and Donor/partner formats
Strengthen financial systems and internal controls and ensure that transactions are adequately captured and recorded accordingly in the system. Ensure all payments are adequately supported by the relevant documents.
Set up a cash monitoring mechanism for the field offices, in regards to liquidation of any advances given.
Be able to represent ABGREMO in various forums and be able to proficiently report on ABGREMO activities effectively.
Be able to undertake financial monitoring in the field /sub offices and ensuring that staff adhere to the ABGREMO and donor/partner financial policies.
Instituting organizational financial policies and procedures with the approval of the PC,DPC and FO
Provides timely and sound advice to the Management on financial matters concerning the organization
Responsible for all financial issues and correspondence on financial matters with partners and donors
Monitor and approve the payment of funds as provided within approved budgets
Preparing and assisting in enforcement of budget controls
Responsible for the disbursement of funds based on approved project budgets to the field on a timely basis
Responsible for the compiling of all project monthly and quarterly financial statements
Training of relevant staff on organizational policies
Collects all vouchers, financial reports and any other relevant material on a monthly basis from field office
Provision of monthly cash forecast to Finance Officer and Programme Coordinator
Responsible for timely financial reports on all projects to management and donors
Review of all financial reports generated internally
Oversee all human resources/personnel issues, including payroll, for all staff
Oversees and manages the annual auditing process and liaises regularly with auditors
Maintains an efficient and transparent financial filing system
Direct supervision of Accountant and Accountant assistants
Any other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

ABGREMO is actively seeking a candidate who is committed to its mission and vision.
University graduate with a degree in accounting or equivalent;
A minimum of 1 years experience working in a similar position;
Experience of developing financial and internal control systems;
Strong attention to detail and a high level of organization;
Strong written communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of team;
Diplomacy and negotiation skills;
Willingness to travel regularly within Nigeria;
Ability to field calls from a diverse group of donors and partner organizations;
Strong financial management skills and strong competencies in people management, capacity building and coaching;
Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, and financial applications such as Quick Books and Pastel strongly preferred.
