Staff of the Imo State House of Assembly, who had on Wednesday, shut down power supply in the Assembly complex, switching off electrical appliances while lawmakers were in plenary, continued their protest Thursday.

As early as 8am Thursday, the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and angry House of Assembly workers barricaded the entrance to the Assembly complex denying lawmakers access to their offices and legislative chambers.

Our correspondent learnt that the workers, who were billed to commence full strike action Friday, were protesting four months arrears of unpaid salaries.

It, however, took the intervention of the Speaker of the Assembly, Chief Acho Ihim to calm frayed nerves of the workers.
The Speaker pleaded with the workers to give him a little time to redress the matter in the interest of all concerned.

Addressing the state Labour Congress and the workers, Ihim urged the workers to shelve their proposed strike action, saying it will jeopardise the smooth running of the Assembly and negatively impact activities of government.

He pleaded for time, noting that the Governor Rochas Okorocha was not in the state. He promised to meet the governor upon his return and take up the issue of their unpaid salaries.

Thereafter the lawmakers sat and quickly adjourned till next week.

This is a warning to those thieves in Abuja. A day will come when the people will be fed up of ur ineptitude, the impunity and the broad day looting of our commonwealth. On that day, you'll have no where to hide. On that day, the french and Russian revolution will be a child's play. Remember! The french and Russians didn't rise up after a day of oppression. It took years and unless u change, Nigerians will soon have enough of you. On that day, bushmeat go catch hunter. In other news, PEDRO RODRIGUEZ IS A BLUE
