Nigeria's Poor Level Of Education Is Reflected In The Widespread UTME Failure, A by Sunrisetrend: 8:14am On May 16
Professor Oluyemisi Obilade, a former vice chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, and former commissioner for education in Osun State, has described the widespread failure noted in the recently released results of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) as a true reflection of low quality education in Nigeria.

According to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), which administered the exam, only 23% of the 1.84 million candidates who took the test nationwide received a score of 200 out of 400, or 50%, while the remaining candidates received a score lower than 50%.
Obilade lashed out at this development, blaming it on a variety of causes, the most of which, in her opinion, were self-inflicted by society.
"Many things have gone wrong in our education sector such that the sector has been seriously devalued and nothing seems to shock us again," stated the former commissioner. When Professor I-shaq Oloyede, the JAMB registrar, revealed the results of this year's UTME and provided the passing and failing percentages, I wasn't shocked. She remarked, "I knew that was the real scenario.
"Today, there is no dignity in our education system," Obilade went on. These days, money is the center of everything. These days, money is worshipped.
