I have watched movies and read stories depicting the conditions of pre-colonial North America and wondered what would make people leave the infrastructure and development in Europe for such an undeveloped continent. The answer is that they saw the opportunities. They knew they would have to put in a lot of work and that some of them would fail, but they knew they could create something as good or even better than what they already had in Europe.

But you mostly want to go to places where someone else has already put in the work in order to partake in the rewards that follow. Unlike Asians, who are captains of industries in the West, you are not looking for where to make an impact. You just want to survive while being well fed. That is a very parochial vision.

The educational system in Nigeria is to help prepare our minds to japa as it is relates only to the developed nations. The developed nations taught their own indigenous technology in their schools and universities and were able to research and improve on them and it created jobs for them after their education as they can go into their own indigenous industries with the improvements they have learnt at school and in the university. This is what is needed in Nigeria and Africa too, we should start teaching our own indigenous technologies, so that we can improve on them and this will allow people to move into these indigenous industries and will be able to bring in improvements from the research they have done at school and in the universities.
