NIMC CLEARS OVER 2.5M BACKLOG OF NIN MODIFICATION – DG

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has cleared over 2.5 million backlog of modifications to National Identification Number (NIN).

Acting Director-General, Engineer Abisoye Coker-Odusote, gave this indication during an unscheduled visit to the FCT office of the commission.

She also insisted that NIN registration is free while nominal fees are expected to be paid for modifications.

”We don’t expect people to pay for enrollment but as for modifications in signatures, enrollment errors and Date of Birth, what should be paid through bank remittances are N500 and N15,000 respectively.

“And please note that modifications of any information would only be allowed if made with sworn affidavits.

” Let me reiterate that the agency on my watch will not tolerate continued acts of extortion and harassment of Nigerians from within.

“We also want to promise that all issues delaying the processing of national identity cards would be addressed within two weeks,” Coker-Odusote added.

On the challenges of broken down and outdated systems, slow network connectivity and others, the NIMC DG said all issues were being addressed, saying the Renewed Hope agenda of the President Bola Tinubu administration would reposition data management in the country.

On her part, the FCT NIMC Coordinator, Mrs Ndi Awan, spoke about the uncomfortable working environment, slow network connectivity and activities of touts around the premises.

She said: “Our challenge is many but let me talk about the issue of poor network, we usually find it difficult to upload biometrics of enrollment.

“We are also short-staffed, our officers are not enough to handle the number of people coming in, this makes the system and process slow.”

I am still trying to understand whether this NIN Numbers will work together with the National Population Commission’s Digital Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System (e-CRVS), and National Geospatial Data Repository (NGDR)..

Does it therefore mean i can pay N15,000 to lie to the government about my age? Or change my age to suit any purpose i want to achieve? I don't support that.

Harmonization of national data is needed to bring vague and estimated planning to abrupt end.The issuance and obtaining of original national identity card have been an Herculean task.

NIMC staff behave as something else.

Na NIMC u go see say the system operator go make mistake for your Date of Birth, refuse to show u before submitting and they'll now request 15k for correction afterwards

This NIN things is now a big issue most especially for pple in abroad .... I did it reluctantly back then in 2013 , now I'm facing alot challenge on it coz its attached to so many thing in nigeria.

I really don't understand Nigeria should we be happy cause you did the job you are employed to do? That is why this politicians take us for a ride. Imagine the other time Kogi government paid arrears salaries and people were jubliating.
How can Nigeria politicians be campaigning that they will build you roads in this 2024 while other countries are focus on the industry and growth of their economy.
The questions is why did NIMC allow so many backlogs? if not incompetent behavior towards work.

Nigerians are generally very very corrupt people,we exploit every decision of Government to enrich ourselves.
Bail is free,but trust the Nigerian police to always find a way to make money off it, Passport is 30000 for a 32 page booklet,but trust Nigerians to build up a criminal structure around passport acquisition so what's 30000 naira from government becomes 80000.
Even mere admissions to Polythenic and Universities in Nigeria,be sure there's a racket that won't allow things to be done smoothly.
Back to NIN, ordinary corrections on the details submitted has become a big racket for some individuals,until Government starts to wield the big stick by actually getting people arrested and thrown into Jail before all this criminal enterprises can be dismantled In all government institution.
