ClearlineHMO in partnership with Greenlife Pharmaceuticals and Clinix Healthcare gives free malaria tests and treatment to the Lagos Makoko community.

Residents of the Makoko community in the Yaba Local Government Area of Lagos State were on Tuesday being world malaria day was tested and treated for malaria.

This was part of events organised by Clearline HMO in conjunction with Greenlife Pharmaceuticals Ltd and Clinix Healthcare to mark 2023 World Malaria Day.

At the event, themed, "Ready 2 beat Malaria,' residents both young and old were educated on malaria, its cause, prevention, and how to get treated when down with the disease.

Asked why Makoko was chosen for the scheme, a representative of Clearline HMO,(Dr. Chris Nkwoji said the community was chosen because its riverine nature makes it prone to mosquitoes that cause malaria.

He said, "As you can see, it is a riverine community which means they are exposed to mosquito bites. It is also a densely populated area. So, the essence of this is to educate them about the menace of mosquito bites and malaria. We will also test them for malaria, treat and give drugs to those who tested positive for the disease. They will also be getting mosquito nets. We have over a thousand residents of this community registered for this event. This is part of the corporate social responsibility of the companies involved."

The Business Development Manager, Clinix Healthcare, Tolulope Adeniyi said the theme for the scheme is to beat malaria by equipping Makoko residents with the necessary materials to the effect.

"This starts with people having an understanding of the root cause of malaria which is mosquito. Considering this community, the environment is mosquito infested because mosquitoes have enough spots to lay their eggs and hatch them. But when people are educated about the disease, they will want to clean their drainages regularly and take necessary precautions to ensure that mosquitoes are reduced in and out of the house. Today, the residents will be getting tested and that's why Clinix Healthcare as a diagnostic center is available. Clearline HMO is also here and Greenlife Pharmaceuticals Ltd to supply drugs to test who test positive for malaria."
